Below, you will see a series of dates that are relevant for understanding not only English history specifically, but the intersection of English history with world history. I have provided a brief (very brief) explanation of why the date is important. It will be up to you to read about your dates and understand them. Understand that because this course focuses on the history of England, most of our dates will be relevant primarily to Western culture. Memory Techniques for Memorizing Dates and Numbers

And We'll Never Be Royals: British History the Entertaining Way
In order to understand British history effectively, it is helpful to understand that it is a STORY. Literally, it is a record of people doing stuff. That's all history ever is, really: people doing stuff. They don't know the future; they don't always know they're taking the right course (or the wrong one). If you want to get a good feel for the history, novels, films, and documentaries are invaluable. The sources I'll recommend here are intended for general adult audiences and are OPTIONAL. Please understand that although I will alert you to issues that might offend, I cannot anticipate every objection. It must be up to you to pre-screen resources and choose ones that are compatible with your and your family's values. Please also note that any novel or film -- basically, anything that isn't listed here as a documentary or nonfiction -- is obviously fiction, and therefore can be expected to take liberties with the facts. Use these texts as a jumping-off point to get a "feel" for the history and the setting and the conflicts, and then go to nonfiction to broaden your understanding. Ancient Rome
