Voyages to Find the Northwest Passage:
A Helpful Video! |
What's great about this video is that it "fogs out" the interior of the landforms through which the sailors who attempted to find the Northwest Passage were trying to sail. I like it because basically, that's a pretty realistic depiction of what the sailors knew and did not know about this area: Beyond the area they knew about (or hoped they knew about), it might as well have been Fogland.
The video also illustrates just how difficult the voyages must have been, and how much success (when there was any) depended on sharing information, including maps, letters, descriptions of the conditions they found there, and then of course, the effort it took to preplan a voyage of this complexity. In essence, trying to find the Northwest Passage was like trying to land on the moon for the first time. |
